Former United States Central Intelligence Agency Director David Petraeus has landed a new gig at Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P., according to Bloomberg Businessweek. This might be an opportunity for the retired U.S. Army Gen. to get a second chance after a relationship outside the confines of his marriage forced him to leave his job in the fall of 2012.
The 60-year old Petraeus will become the chairman of the investment firm’s KKR Global Institute.
The firm, which is based in New York, did not release specific details pertaining to Petraeus’ role or his agreement with the company. However, a company spokeswoman said he would work for the firm in a consulting capacity. The former CIA director will also aid the company as they check out possible investments in new areas.
Currently, this is not Petraeus’ only job. He also received a teaching position at the University of Southern California in early May. In addition to instructing his classes he will also serve as a mentor for students in the ROTC program.
In August Petraeus is expected to begin a job as a visiting professor at Macaulay Honors College at City University of New York.
For the most part, KKR’s goal is to invest in a company and then generate revenue by selling that company after a few years.
According to KKR, its Global Institute is designed to monitor and aid the company’s investments that extend outside of the United States.
Despite his indiscretions Petraeus has an extensive resume. He served as the CIA director for a year, Sept. 2011 to Nov. 2012. Prior to his role at the CIA, he was in the U.S. Army for almost four decades, eventually becoming a four-star general.
Petraeus also has a Ph.D. from Princeton University. He has written on national security, military strategy and international relations.
He was forced to step down from his CIA post in November after it was made public that he was having an affair with writer Paula Broadwell. She had been writing a biography on Petraeus titled “All In”.
