Weather forced the first ODI to be abandoned without a ball being bowled, making Wednesday's contest their de facto series opener. Coming off a 3-1-1 win in their Test series against India, England is well aware of India's success in the ODI format and expects a tougher challenge.
"A change of format will obviously do them good," England skipper Alastair Cook said, via CricBuzz.com. "It's not quite the same ground-hog day for them probably. We've got to remember they're world champions at 50-overs, so they obviously know what they're doing and will probably go into this as favourites."
India struggled in the Test series against England, which seemingly humbled the Indian squad heading into the cricket format that they've found much success in.
"There is no need to remind anyone that we are World Champions," said India skipper MS Dhoni. "England are quite an intelligent side. Not to forget when we last came here, we won the Champions Trophy. We have had the success. It's just that we have to stand up and take responsibility, back each other up."
The ODI will take place at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, United Kingdom. Weather.com forecasts a cloudy day with a 50 percent chance of rain through the afternoon; temperatures could reach as high as 64 degrees Fahrenheit.
