Colorado Dairy Queen Accidentally Serves Milkshakes Laced With Chemical Cleaner

Customers at a Colorado Dairy Queen were served a deadly treat when an employee accidentally mixed chemical cleaner into a batch of milkshakes, ABC News reported.

No one became deathly ill when an employee at the Dairy Queen in Thornton mistakenly poured vanilla syrup into a bottle of cleaning solution. But Lisa Chase, whose son ordered one of the chemical-laced milkshakes last Thursday, is outraged.

"There's no reason that that should have ever happened," Chase told the station. "They need to be held accountable for what they're doing because they could've cost people their lives."

Chase's -7-year-old son Riley knew something was wrong when he first tasted his vanilla milkshake and gave it to his mother for a second opinion.

"It tasted gross," the boy told ABC News. "Something was like bubbling on my tongue."

Chase immediately complained to the manager, who told her they do not give refunds, FOX31 Denver reported. Chase said she told him she was taking the milkshake and her son to the hospital to ensure a refund.

" 'Do whatever you got to do,' " the manager replied according to Chase.

A district manager eventually called Chase and admitted that an employee left a bottle of cleaner in the sink, which was later filled with syrup by another customer who thought it was OK, the mother said.

Riley and at least two other customers were treated at a hospital as a precaution, ABC News reported. It is not clear if anyone suffered extensive injuries.

Dairy Queen released a statement saying what happened in Thornton was an accident.

"This was an accidental and isolated incident," the company told ABC News. "The employees responsible have been reprimanded. The rest of the staff is getting new training."

The incident is to be investigated by the Colorado Health Department.
