Wendy's Pretzel Burger: New Fast Food Creation Goes After the Waffle Taco

Rumor has it that Wendy's is coming up with a new twist to its regular fast food burgers.

USA Today reported that the fast food chain is keeping quiet about their testing of the "Pretzel Bacon Burger." With the Twitter buzz surrounding Taco Bell's rumored creation of the Waffle Taco, Wendy's clearly is keeping up with the competition.

According to USA Today, a spokesman declined to divulge any details concerning the Wendy's newest creation.

However, various reports say analyst Mark Kalinowski confirmed a Wendy's pretzel bacon cheeseburger is on the way.

"We do not know exactly when this product will go national; Wendy's confirms 'it will be part of our 2013 promotional calendar.' Our best guess is for a Q3 launch," Kalinowski, who works for a Janney Montgomery Scott firm, wrote in a May 24 report, according to the Huffington Post.

The Pretzel Bacon Burger isn't exactly a fresh idea to foodies everywhere.

According to Philly.com, PYT Philly at the Piazza has a $12 Cheesesteak Pretzel Roll Burger "on a bun baked for us at the Philly Pretzel Factory."

Nevertheless, the unveiling of a new fast food treat could give Wendy's the advantage over the current fast-food competitive market.

Christopher Muller, professor of hospitality at Boston University's School of Hospitality Administration, thinks Wendy's Pretzel Bacon Burger is a great idea.

"This could be a very, very big deal," Muller told USA Today. "I don't know why, but there's nothing else on the market quite like it." If it's a hit, he says, others are guaranteed to follow."

Muller believes a well-marketed pretzel burger is exactly what Wendy's needs.

"Wendy's hasn't had a new product like this forever," Muller told USA Today.

Speculators may be excited about the pretzel burger, but they are concerned about pricing. Reportedly, "the burger is expected to be premium priced, but price-conscious fast-food consumers currently seem bent on lower-priced value items."
