Suzuki Invaded By Spiders, Kizashi Vehicles Recalled

Suzuki has recalled more than 19,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to creepy crawlers.

Suzuki said spider webs can clog a vehicle's fuel vapor vent hose, which can then cut off air flow, The Associated Press reported.

This can cause negative pressure in the gas tank, leading to cracks, fuel leaks and fires, according to Daily Finance via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Kizashi cars made from 2010 to 2013 were affected.

Spiders are drawn to fuel vapor vent hoses because their bodies contain chemicals called hydrocarbons, used to distinguish their kin, according to Popular Science. And what else has hydrocarbons? You guessed it - gasoline.

The "spider problem" hasn't caused any crashes or injuries in the U.S., Suzuki revealed in documents posted today by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall came after seven complaints were reported. Suzuki service centers are offering to replace the ventilation line with one that has a filter. They will also replace gas tanks, if warranted.

The owners of the affected vehicles will be notified, and customers with questions can call Suzuki's customer service at (800) 934-0934.

This isn't the first time spiders forced the recall of thousands of cars. Mazda recalled Mazda6 cars twice since 2011 for a similar problem, according to Daily Finance.
