The high-tech Coolest Cooler has become the most highly funded project to be featured on Kickstarter.
Features of the cooler include a built-in blender, a Bluetooth speaker that is removable and waterproof, a USB charger, and an LED lid light that shows drinks in the dark. The device also has extra-wide tires, storage for both knives and plates, a built-in cutting board that can also be used as a cooler divider, and a bottle opener, PC Magazine reported.
The Coolest is priced at $185 and is available in blue, orange and green, PC Magazine reported. The cooler's funding record follows one month after creator Ryan Grepper announced that high precision 3-D printers will be used to make every part of the Coolest, "from the hinges to wheels to the blender pitcher itself."
The project, which debuted on the crowd-funding website in July, took the No.1 spot with close to $10.4 million in pledges, according to PC Magazine.
"The Coolest is all about having fun and making memorable experiences with family and friends, and I can't wait for you to share yours," Grepper said in a follow-up video. "Today, together, we made Coolest history."
The Coolest managed to out-fund Pebble's smartwatch, which drew in $10,266,845, NBC News reported.
Grepper said he has spent a decade looking for ways to reinvent the cooler.
"Nine or 10 years ago, I was making a blender out of a weed whacker, putting an old car stereo into a cooler," he said.
Improvements have been made to the Coolest in recent weeks, such as adding more protection to the side area that is used for storing phones, keys, as well as Bluetooth speakers, and giving users the ability to connect Bluetooth speakers from multiple coolers. Grepper said the battery for the device can be removed and recharged, with secondary batteries costing $40.
"We'll be testing and printing prototypes for rapid evaluation and improvement, so that by the time we tool up for manufacturing we can meet our demands for quality and total awesomeness," he said.
