Texas A&M begins its life after Johnny Manziel on Thursday. Sophomore quarterback Kenny Hill is tasked with following in the former Heisman winner's steps.

He played in four games last year, completing 16 of 22 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown.

"The experience of being here and watching how we do (things) offensively and seeing Johnny play has helped him," said Aggies offensive coordinator Jake Spavital, via ESPN. "He's seen more than (rookie quarterback Kyle Allen) has right now and that was important. He's our guy and we're putting all our eggs in that basket."

Beyond the quarterback position, Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin said he would have a heavy rotation of players in the first game in order to see what this year's team can do.

"Our team is in a place right now where they're excited to play," he said. "There's been enough said outside the program about what we are and the guys are anxious to get on the field."

South Carolina also lost a star player in defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, whom the Houston Texans drafted first overall. Filling in Clowney's spot on the line will be sophomore Darius English, who played backup last season.

"(Texas A&M are) probably a little like us that they haven't had a bunch of superstars to talk about this preseason," Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said. "Their players are anxious to earn their way, just like our guys."
