Selfies with Corpse: Duo Poses with Friend's Body After Overdose

A Missouri man and woman are accused of taking selfies with the body of their friend after he died from an overdose, which they uploaded on Facebook.

Instead of seeking medical attention for the victim, 24-year-old Chelsie Berry and Jared Prier, 28, posed for pictures next to their friend's lifeless body before abandoning the corpse on a rural Newton County road, police said, the Joplin Globe reported.

Berry and Prier were arrested Wednesday and charged with manslaughter and abandoning a corpse.

Newton County police said Berry was out partying last week with the victim, 30-year-old Dennis Meyer. Berry told policed that Meyer injected himself with a potent painkiller called Dilaudid and began acting "crazy" and "pulling out his penis," according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Smoking Gun.

That's when Berry called Prior, Meyers' friend whom she met the day before, because she was "nervous."

Berry said Prier showed up and they eventually drove to a convenience store. By that time Meyer, who was sitting in the front seat, did not appear to be breathing, Berry told police.

But they did not call for help or take Meyer to the hospital "because she and Jared were high on meth and Xanax and thought they would get in trouble," according to the affidavit.

After a while Meyer started to "smell bad," so they moved his body from the front seat to the back seat before driving to an abandoned road. Berry told police she knew Meyer was dead when they took the selfie and left him on a rural driveway off Route V, the Joplin Globe reported.

Meyers' body was found last week. By that time Berry had already uploaded the corpse selfie to Facebook. A tipster alerted police and Berry and Prier were arrested.

The two were held at the Newton County Jail on $50,000 bond, the newspaper reported.
