California Band Teacher Faces Child Porn Charges After he Secretly Filmed Students Changing Clothes, Police Allege

A California band director is facing pornography charges after he allegedly secretly recorded students while they changed into and out of their uniforms, according to ABC 30.

The arrest came after a student reportred finding a hidden camera in the classroom. According to sex crimes detectives, 25-year-old Steven Montes recorded the student who reported the camera and at least one other student, according to the Visalia Times-Delta.

But Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims says it will be weeks before all of Montes' digital belongings are searched.

"Several additional computers and other media devices were recovered from various locations during the investigation," Mims said.

Students are shocked and said Montes didn't seem like someone who would do such a thing.

"I was in shock because he seemed OK, he seemed normal," Jesse Velasco told ABC 30.

Montes was also a band teacher at Visalia's Divisadero Middle School, and officials are looking into any possible victims there. He was also placed on suicide watch following his arrest, according to ABC 30.

Montes, who lives with his wife and children, was arrested on charges of production and possession of child pornography, according to the Fresno Bee. He is out of jail on bail, though state or federal charges are expected to be filed, ABC 30 reported.
