The Secret Service in Connecticut has taken into custody a person suspected of threatening President Barack Obama.
A vehicle believed to have been driven by the suspect was located on Friday on Mix Avenue in Hamden and the person was taken into custody, Hamden Police Lieutenant Kevin Samperi told NBC Connecticut.
The Secret Service, which is in charge of the president's safety, was placed on high alert on Friday after being told to be on the lookout for a person who might have ill intentions towards the president.
The information was also received by police in Westchester County, N.Y., where Obama's Air Force One landed at around 2 p.m. Friday, according to the station. The president was there attending fundraising events in Sound Shore and Purchase.
"We have taken all appropriate investigative steps in this matter, based on the information we received yesterday about the suspicious vehicle and person," said Nicole Mainor, public affairs staff assistant for Secret Service. "There have been no arrests or charges brought in this case at this point."
The vehicle involved was said to be a 2014 blue Volkswagen Jetta with Connecticut plates. Secret Service officials asked state police to keep an eye out for the car, and bulletins were sent to local law enforcement.
By Friday evening, Obama arrived at Green Airport in Warwick, R.I., to attend a private fundraising event.
The nature of the threat was not immediately clear, and the investigation is ongoing.
