Adam Levine Says His Words Were 'Impulsive'

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine has admitted to being impulsive in his choice of words.

"CBS Sunday Morning" caught up with Levine for an interview that was recorded before the May 28 episode of "The Voice" in which his choice of words stirred up a scandal on social networks; the interview will air on June 2. "I'm very much okay with who I am and comfortable in my skin enough to embrace that even though I don't say everything the right way and you know, tend to be a bit impulsive with some of the words that I select," he said.

Levine found himself in the middle of a controversy this week after he murmured, "I hate this country" on a results episode of "The Voice", where he is one of the celebrity coaches. The comment was due to two of his team's contestants, Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons, being voted out of the show, leaving him with only one hopeful, Amber Carrington, for the top prize.

After that episode which drew the wrath of patriotic fans, Levine defended himself by tweeting dictionary definitions of "joke", "humorless", "lighthearted" and "misunderstand". He also vented about the backlash to Us Weekly. "I obviously love my country very much and my comments last night were made purely out of frustration. Being a part of 'The Voice', I am passionately invested in my team and want to see my artists succeed. Last night's elimination of Judith and Sarah was confusing and downright emotional for me and my comments were made based on my personal dissatisfaction with the results," said Levine.

Levine admitted he was sad and "a little pissed off" after the show's results. "I was shocked, actually. I think they all gave us really strong performances . . . I'm really passionate about these singers and their talent and believe that maybe their talent was overshadowed by some other things," he said to Us.

As one Adam faced the music, another Adam got to have a little fun with it. "I love this country!" tweeted Adam Lambert on May 29. It seems his name is often confused with Levine's.
