Pregnant Panda May Have Miscarried in Scotland Zoo

Tian-Tian, a panda bear from Scotland who was artificially inseminated in April, may have lost her cub.

After failing to mate with Yang Guang, the only other panda in Britain, the zookeepers at Edinburgh Zoo had Tian-Tian artificially inseminated, according to The Associated Press.

Though giant pandas, such as Tian-Tian and Yang Guang, often have difficulty conceiving, scientists strongly believed Tian-Tian was pregnant and going to carry for a full term. It seems as if she lost the baby, AP reported.

This sad news comes after zookeepers asked Edinburgh Airport's air traffic controllers to stop pilots from flying over the zoo to keep the pandas' stress levels down. The airport turned down the request, according to Telegraph.

"Stress during pregnancy can be an issue with pandas. It would be best for Tian Tian to be able to feel comfortable, and to not feel at all worried," Jeroen Jacobs, a panda expert, told Telegraph.

Tian-Tian is being closely monitored by doctors.
