Missing Dog Rescued From England Sea Cliff After Nine Days

A missing dog that was stranded on one of the largest sea cliffs in England without food or water for nine days has been rescued.

Sprig, a springer spaniel, was spotted by a group of volunteers from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) at the base of a cliff near Foreland Point, Devon during a training session.

The owners took Sprig for a walk near the 1,000-foot cliff to admire the view that overlooks the water, Standard reported. When they looked down, the pup was gone.

"We've been for walks along that coast many times and he's never done anything like this before, it's very out of character," Susie Sanders, Sprig's owner, told Standard. "We think probably he must have chased a pheasant, that's the only reason we can think he would have gone down there."

After a long nine days of search parties, the owners were starting to lose hope of finding their 9-year-old dog.

The RNLI crew saw the dog from a distance and paddled over to see if it needed help.

"He had clearly been there for some time because he was licking water off my dry suit and he did seem rather pleased to see us," Helmsman Andrew Escott, one of the RNLI members participating in the training session, said to BBC.

Sanders and her husband, Mark, were grateful when they received the phone call from RNLI saying they found Sprig.

"It's amazing, the best news ever," the couple told BBC.
