One woman was so desperate for a diamond ring that she stole one and ate it.
Christina Schlegel's boyfriend Brian Ford reportedly stole a diamond ring from a Zale's in Utah. As they fled the scene, the 25-year-old woman swallowed the precious stone, according to ABC.
Utah University Police caught the couple a half hour later - with the help of Zale employees - and could not find the stolen ring. The jewelry was discovered after it showed up on an x-ray of Schlegel, reported Fox News.
Zale's is waiting to get its stolen ring back, which was said to be worth thousands of dollars, reports ABC. There has been no word yet on how they will get the ring back, how they will clean it, or exactly how long it will take.
"The transit time out of the intestinal tract can be hours to weeks. Some people can be a short amount of time, some people can be a longer amount of time...The narrow areas are typically above the stomach...It just depends on if it gets hung up in any place in the intestines," Jeremy Coleman, MD, Medical Director of Sandy Urgent Care Clinic, ABC stated.
As for now, the couple will have to wait for their ring to reappear behind bars in a Utah jail.
