Chicago students will be given a back-to-school present from the city today - much more security on their route to school in the mornings.
Four schools in Northwest Surburban High School District 214 are partaking in the new security that is part of a $45 billion capital project program, reports Daily Herald.
"We're always looking to review safety and security," Superintendent David Schuler told the Daily Herald. "It's one of our most important concerns."
The program, referred to as "Safe Passage," is lining the streets with 1,200 adults every day while students are walking to and from school, reports The Associated Press. The purpose of the program is to keep students safe in a time where the city is increasingly seeing children as the victim in crimes.
"We're always looking to review safety and security," Schuler said. "It's one of our most important concerns."
There will be another school board vote on Thursday about other security-related projects to work on with the $45 billion capital the school has to use for added security, according to thew newspaper.
