After Week Three of the Premier League, Chelsea emerged in first place with nine points and a +7 goal differential following their 6-3 victory over Everton. Striker Diego Costa scored two goals in the winning effort and received Player of the Week honors.
Not only did Costa's Player Performance Index of 65 earn him the Player of the Week, but it also put him atop the cumulative player standings with a 125 PPI. Costa scored in the first minute and the 90th minute of Saturday's game and has continued his streak of goals for Chelsea. The striker has four goals in three matches against Burnley, Leicester City and Everton.
Costa is rated the league's best player on the league's top-rated team. Chelsea remained atop the EA Sports PPI Club Ranking after Week Three with a combined score of 812. Swansea City came in second place with a score of 731, followed by Tottenham (550), Liverpool (549), Manchester City (547), and Arsenal (512). Aston Villa is ranked eighth with a score of 456 despite capturing third place in the standings with their 2-1 win over Hull City.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier was the top-rated player after Week Two, but following the team's 3-0 loss to Liverpool, his PPI for the week was only a 13, which dropped him ten spots in the rankings. In contrast, Costa jumped seven spots up to number one following his season-low PPI of 27 in Week Two against Leicester. Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson (109 PPI) remained in second place in the player rankings ahead of third-place teammate Nathan Dyer (100) following the team's 3-0 win over West Brom.
As for the EA Sports Team of the Week, Costa (CHE) and Graziano Pelle (SOU) are the strikers; Dyer (SWA), Ramires (CHE), Nemanja Matic (CHE) and Morgan Schneiderlin (SOU) round out the midfield; Daryl Janmaat (NEW), Michael Williamson (NEW), John Terry (CHE) and Branislav Ivanovic (CHE) complete the defense with Robert Green (QPR) in goal.
