Florida Teen Arrested for Murdering Mother, Body Discovered at Residence

A 15-year-old boy from Lee County, Florida is being accused of killing his mother and leaving her body to decompose inside their trailer for over a week, Naples News reported on Tuesday.

Tyrese Landrum is accused of murdering Tamara Davis, 42, after she was reported missing by her boyfriend on Aug. 24. Authorities entered the home on Sunday after neighbor's reported a strong foul odor coming from her home, only to discover her decaying corpse.

Davis had returned home from a night of heavy drinking when she disappeared while taking a shower at about 11 p.m. Her boyfriend Marcos Casiano told police that she had asked him to walk her dogs while she took a shower, but when he came back about an hour later, the water was still running but she was gone.

He told authorities she had a history of substance abuse problems and tried to commit suicide six years ago. After calling hospitals and the jail, he still could not locate her.

When her body was found, police questioned her son. Casiano said he didn't suspect any foul play, even with the smell, and believed it was probably a dead animal.

"It's a bunch of rats or raccoons or whatever is there," he said, according to Naples News.

Neighbors said they often heard Davis and her son yelling at each other for the two years they had been living in the area. Mark Bumgarner, the athletic coach at Brevard Middle School said Landrum was "probably a bit troubled," but likable.

"I just heard. It's very shocking to me. I never would have thought Ty was capable of that," he told Naples News.

Davis was arrested in January 2013 on a cocaine charge after she was arrested on a warrant for nonpayment of child support involving Tyrese's father, Daniel. Davis had just gained custody about a year ago.

Landrum is being held for 21 days on murder charges, the maximum a juvenile can be held in Florida without a trial. The State Attorney's Office has to file formal charges by that time.
