Lenovo announced a new low-cost Android tablet, the S8, complete with premium features and Intel's processor for $199.
Lenovo, the renowned PC maker, announced the all-new TAB S8 Android tablet packed with premium features at an affordable cost at the IFA 2014 in Berlin, Wednesday. The TAB S8 is the company's first 8-inch tablet powered by an Intel processor.
The TAB S8 features are not high-end but justify its affordable price tag, making it worth every penny. With an 8-inch IPS display, the TAB S8 packs 1920x1200 pixels powered by Intel's quad-core Atom Z3745 processor clocking speeds at 1.86 GHz. A 2GB RAM backs the tablet but the storage option is limited to 16GB without a microSD card option.
"With Lenovo's Tab S8 tablet powered by an Intel Atom Processor, consumers have the freedom to experience seamless, powerful performance with great battery life. They can enjoy the content they want on this new Intel-based tablet, such as games or videos," Erik Reid, vice president of Intel Mobile and Communications Group and general manager of the Tablet Business Unit, said in a press release.
Lenovo's new tablet features a sleek look with a dark front panel and One Glass Solution technology for immersive viewing pleasure. It boasts an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with pre-loaded apps like ShareIt for easy file sharing options. The front camera works in high-definition with 1.6 megapixels. Other features include high-speed LTE connection, Bluetooth 4.0, front-facing Dolby speakers, Android 4.4 KitKat and a promised battery life of up to seven hours.
Comparatively, the Lenovo TAB S8 is priced cheaper than the $229 Nexus 7 tablet at $199. The tablet will hit the stores starting this month through its online store and major retailers. There will be several color options including black, white, blue and yellow, which will vary based on different countries. The TAB S8 is one of several other products unveiled at the event and the company is expected to welcome more products to its family.
