Nintendo recently announced release dates for huge upcoming games, one of which was Star Fox Wii U, set to launch in 2015.
Star Fox, created by game developer Shigeru Miyamoto, has not been given a specific title yet, according to GameSpot. The game's prototype was displayed at this year's Eletronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, where Miyamoto said he was looking into teaming up with an external development studio to get the game more support.
"This is a game that we've developed internally up until now, but because we don't want to bring this to market very soon, we are looking at some potential partner companies that we can team up with," he said, adding that no matter who the partner is, he "will be directly in charge of the project."
The starship shooter is among several games announced by Nintendo to be coming out between now and the end of next year, VentureBeat reported. Other games include action-adventure game Zelda Wii U, as well as Miyamoto's Project Guard and Project Giant Robot.
Star Fox and Zelda were in early stages of development when they made their debut at E3. However, the Japanese tech company said they will be available to fans before New Year's Day 2016.
Miyamoto said that while Star Fox Wii U started out as an internal project before E3, it has since transitioned into full production, GameSpot reported.
"The way that I design games, I started by experimenting with a lot of different assets and play styles," he said. "And then, once we have all that laid out and understood, then we go into full development and begin building the graphics around them."
Other games listed for release in 2015 include Splatoon, Yoshi's Woolly World, Mario Maker, Kirby and the Rainbow House, and Xenoblade Chronicles X.
