GOP U.S. Senate candidate Corey Gardner is taking a new approach to his campaign, calling himself "a new kind of republican."
Garner is using his self-proclaimed title to let voter know that although he is a republican he is fully supporting over-the-counter birth control pills and renewable energy.
Gardner is currently campaigning in Colorado, which is considered a swing state although democrats won every statewide race in the state since 2004, according to The Associated Press.
To combat these thoughts in an important swing state, Gardner released TV spots this week to promote his positions on supporting birth control and the new renewable energy businesses in Colorado.
The race between Gardner and his democratic opponent Sen. Mark Udall is close, as most polls show the candidates as tied, AP says.
"Cory Gardner's trying to win an election on somewhat hostile turf. And to do so, he has to move to the middle," Political analyst Eric Sondermann tells Fox. "On these women's health issues, I think he would be satisfied just to muddy the waters. This is not an issue he's going to win the election on; he is just trying not to lose the election on this family of issues."
