'Shazam' Movie Update: Dwayne Johnson To Play Black Adam In Upcoming DC Film

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has confirmed he will be taking on the role of the anti-hero in Warner Bros. upcoming “Shazam” more.

The actor has been teasing his involvement in the DC Cinematic Universe for a while. During an interview with TotalFilm back in July, Johnson shot down rumors he’d be taking on the role of Green Lantern and teased his connection to another DC hero.

“There’s a character out there that we’re going to announce soon,” Johnson said. “He has the power of Superman. And it’s not the Green Lantern by the way. Believe me – Jon Stewart – he is a character who I wanted to play, but there was already a version of Green Lantern, and so now we’ve gone in a slightly different direction. But this character has the power of Superman. He can throw down…Just say the word. That’s all I’m going to say.”

The Associated Press reported back in August the actor was allegedly up for the role of Black Adam or Shazam and was having difficulty deciding which character to play. However, Johnson took to his official Twitter account on Wednesday to confirm his new DC role.

“‘Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot.’ My honor to become #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics,” Johnson wrote.

Warner Bros. and DC have yet to release a statement about the upcoming “Shazam” movie. It is also unclear if Johnson will make an appearance as Black Adam in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” as the actor has a rumored link to the production as well.
