Comedienne Joan Rivers has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room, her daughter Melissa Rivers said in a statement on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
"My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable," Melissa said.
According to TMZ, just because Rivers is now being treated in a private room doesn't necessarily mean that her health is improving. On Tuesday, Melissa announced that the "Fashion Police" cohost was still on life support. It's not clear if Rivers is still on life support.
"On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we've received," Melissa said in a statement on Tuesday. "At this time she does remain on life support. I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers."
The 81-year-old was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital on Thursday, Aug. 28 after she stopped breathing during a minor throat procedure at a New York City clinic. According to reports, Rivers was undergoing surgery on her vocal chords when she went into cardiac and respiratory arrest. She was immediately taken to the hospital where doctors placed her in a medically-induced coma.
On Sunday, reports surfaced that doctors were beginning to take Rivers out of the coma. The process was expected to take up until Tuesday when doctors would be able to fully assess her condition. So far, there has been no word if Rivers is still in a coma.
