Seattle begins their Super Bowl defense Thursday night against the visiting Packers. The offseason didn't ravage the championship team, and with receiver Percy Harvin now healthy, the Seahawks could be an even better team than last season.
"I think you have to be very impressed with their offense," Packers coach Mike McCarthy told the Associated Press. "On Russell Wilson and their ability to stay in favorable down and distance and keep the mix of the run and the pass. They've always been outstanding running the football, but they look like they're a lot more balanced now."
Green Bay still has quarterback Aaron Rodgers to win them games, but the offense will also look for added production from running back Eddie Lacy. McCarthy played Lacy sparingly through the preseason, and despite the lack of touches in the exhibition games, Lacy feels calm heading into Thursday's season opener.
"I'm a lot less nervous," Lacy told the team website last week. "I'm clear-minded and I know what I'm going into. I was nervous every time (last year). Going out every time felt like the first time all over again. I never really got settled or got comfortable, but as the season went along it got better."
His nervousness last season didn't stop him from winning the 2013 Offensive Rookie of the Year, which he looks to carry into what will hopefully be his first full season with Rodgers.
"Together, we definitely can be explosive, but it takes the guys up front as well," Lacy said. "They've been working hard and making sure they block their man. It should be a big year for us."
