NBC dominated live programming in the Golden Age of television. Sixty years later, the network hopes to do it again with a new live comedy series from Sean Hayes and Chris Moynihan.
The peacock network has put into development the series "Hospitality," a multi-camera comedy written by Moynihan, according to Deadline. The program would air live every week and include some live commercials during the break. The show is set in a midtown Manhattan hotel and focuses on the hospitality staff.
Moynihan, Hayes and Todd Milliner will serve as executive producers. The show will be produced by Milliner's Hazy Mills Productions and Universal TV.
NBC aired some of television's most prolific live programming during the 1950s with shows like "Kraft Television Theater," "Philco-Goodyear Television Playhouse" and "Matinee Theater." The network has continued that live tradition with its late-night sketch comedy series, "Saturday Night Live," which enters its 40th season this fall.
Many of its primetime shows, including "The West Wing," "ER," "30 Rock" and Hayes' former show "Will & Grace," also aired live episodes. The network also premiered a live version of "The Sound of Music" last December and will do it again this year with "Peter Pan."
Fox attempted to develop Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith's "Live From Our Living Room" two years ago. The show was a "re-imagining of the domestic family live multi-cam sitcom," according to Deadline.
