Mad Fresh Bistro in Fort Myers, Florida will not serve ketchup to anyone over the age of 10, as stated on the eatery's menus, Fox News reported on Wednesday.
The statement "chef reserves right to refuse service of ketchup" has been printed somewhere on Mad Fresh's menus since the Fort Myers location opened in October 2012.
The restaurant's owner, Xavier Duclos, feels his decision to refuse ketchup is justified and he isn't backing down.
"My burger has got a sauce on it already. There's no point in adding a sweet sauce on top of that. I think ketchup is edible - on certain things. I'll give it that much. But it's just not part of my culinary agenda," he said, according to Jezebel.
Duclos added that salt also won't be provided with the meal either, and asks patrons to trust him because the restaurant knows what they're doing, a statement revealed.
"Part of the MAD experience is to trust the chef, and not have preconceived notions of what your dish is going to need," Duclos said.
But Mad Fresh's isn't alone. Thrasher's French Fries, a seaside shack with some locations on the Delaware and Maryland shores, also has a no ketchup rule. Malt Vinegar is the favorite condiment at Thrasher's instead, according to Yahoo.
