Sony is strengthening its position in the crowded mobile space by offering a wide range of gadgets. Succeeding the Xperia Z2 Tablet Compact, the Japanese tech giant's all new Z3 Tablet Compact brings revised looks, upgraded specs and new features. The compact tablet features more power under the hood as well as a better display and enhanced audio.
Sony launched the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact during the IFA 2014 event in Berlin, alongside the latest flagship Z3 smartphone and all-new Smartwatch 3. The Z3 Tablet features an 8-inch Full HD display and measures 6.4mm thick and weighs just 0.6 pounds. The company claims it is the world's slimmest and lightest compact tablet, as it outbids iPad Mini in the slim and light weight category.
Sony's new compact tablet packs more power inside than its predecessor. Powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, the Xperia Z3 Tablet features 3GB RAM and 16GB built-in storage. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. The tablet features Sony's signature design with IP65/68 certification for water and dust resistance. The camera uses an 8.1-megapixel sensor on the back and 2.2 megapixels on the front. A powerful 4,500mAh battery promises 13 hours of runtime on video playback.
The highlight of the tablet is its capability to connect with PlayStation 4. Owners of the company's next-gen gaming console can stream PS4 games and play them on the small screen while connected on the same Wi-Fi network. It is also compatible with the GCM10 Game Control Mount that wirelessly connects to Sony's DualShock controller to the tablet.
Sony did not reveal the pricing details of the Z3 Tablet Compact, but with these specs, it is expected to hit a premium price range. The tablet will come in both Wi-Fi and LTE variants this fall to suit customers' needs.
