Motorola is targeting the budget smartphone sector with its all new Moto G smartphone packing worthy features at an affordable cost.
Motorola is building on its mobile base with revamped editions of flagship Moto X and budget-friendly Moto G. The specs and the design of the Moto G have beeb upgraded to challenge every other smartphone in the budget smartphone category. The revamped handset is bigger with a new makeover and some upgraded specs.
Motorola announced the new Moto G second generation at a separate event held downtown Chicago. The phone maker did not make its impactful entry at the IFA 2014 in Berlin, where all other tech giants like Samsung, Sony, LG and others launched new products. But a wide range of products unveiled during its event made a great impression. Motorola also released its Moto 360 smartwatch alongside Moto Hint Bluetooth earpiece and Micro power bank.
The Moto G second generation had its moments at the show. As for the specs detail, Motorola's biggest change in the remodeled smartphone is the bigger screen size, bumped half-an-inch bigger than its predecessor at 5 inches. For most part, the handset remains unchanged with its 720p resolution for the display and a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB RAM.
Motorola felt the need to improve the camera in the Moto G, making a worthy upgrade to 8 megapixels from 5MP found on the original Moto G. The front-camera is boosted from 1.3MP to 2 megapixels, according to Motorola's product listing webpage. The device's volume up button also works as a shutter for the camera to take pictures.
Another notable change in the new Moto G is the expandable storage, which was largely missing in the older model. The smartphone comes in 8GB and 16GB models with single SIM or dual-SIM variants, a feature that has been well-received in developing markets. The handset comes in white and black color options but the back covers can be changed using Motorola's Shells.
Despite the notable upgrades to Moto G, the smartphone still falls under sub-$200 smartphone category. With a starting price of $179.99, Moto G second generation is on sale in the US, India, France, Brazil, Spain, Germany and the UK. Motorola said the handset will arrive in more than a dozen countries by the end of this year.
