The University of Southern California (USC) Trojans play the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. ET. Listen to the radio broadcast below.
The two top-20 teams meet at Stanford Stadium with matching 1-0 records. Cardinal coach David Shaw and first-year Trojans coach Steve Sarkisian know each well from their five matchups against each other. Sarkisian, who coached Washington at the time, lost four of the five games to Shaw, whom Sarkisian accused of having Stanford players fake injuries in their meeting last year.
Despite the accusations, both coaches insisted it was water under the bridge.
"I think, first of all, I have a great deal of respect for David as a coach and as a person," Sarkisian told the Associated Press. "We had a disagreement in the heat of the moment and I think both of us have moved on. We've seen each other on different occasions since then. We were actually in Hawaii at an event. We haven't spoken on it and I think our relationship is fine. We've moved on."
Shaw agreed.
"It was over," he said. "It was in the past. He and I sat together at lunch and breakfast a couple times and talked about a bunch of other things. Our wives are getting to become good friends; they know each other well so there's no animosity whatsoever."
Shaw's team is coming off a 45-0 blowout of UC Davis, whom quarterback Kevin Hogan threw three touchdowns against. After the game, Hogan credited his offensive line with the win.
"They play with a chip on their shoulder," he said. "They know that we lost all those great guys on the offensive line the past couple years. They want to prove that they're that next elite group, which I think they are. It helps motivate them."
Sarkisian's quarterback, Cody Kessler, also had a huge game, passing for four touchdowns in the Trojans' 52-13 win over Fresno State.
