It would be an admirable feat to catch one rare albino lobster. However, that was no challenge for two lobstermen in Maine.
In just one week, two men in the area reported catching the rare creature on separate boating trips.
"It was a total shock to see him there," Joe Bates, who fishes from the Lobsta Mobsta fishing vessel, tells Bangor Daily News, after catching an albino lobster. "I wasn't sure what to think - and then I realized it was something special."
Bates caught the first albino lobster last weekend. Lobsterman Bert Philbrick caught the second one Thursday, less than a week later.
The two lobsters were under the legal size, according to Owl's Head Lobster, where both fishermen brought their rare catches. Under normal circumstances the lobsters would be thrown back in the water to mature more. However, the Maine Marine Patrol made an exception on this rare catch, reports Press Herald.
The odds of catching a white albino lobster are one in two million, according to Bangor Daily News.
