Boy With Tumor Transferred from Spain to Prague for Treatment Following Parents' Arrest

The son of Brett and Naghmeh King, who were arrested after removing their son from a facility and driving him to another, traveled from southern Spain to the Czech Republic's capital aboard a specially prepared private jet for a brain tumor treatment, according to The Associated Press.

After meeting the parents of 5-year-old Ashya King, Manuel Paz, medical director of Malaga's Children's and Maternity Hospital in Spain, and the family, agreed the move could take place, according to the AP. Paz said the boy was in a stable condition and able to fly to Prague for "alternative treatment."

The Kings said they wanted their son to be treated with proton beam technology instead of the X-rays being used by Southampton General Hospital, which is why they decided to take their son to Proton Therapy Center in Prague, the AP reported.

Police hunt took place after the parents were seen boarding a ferry bound for France hours after having removed their son from the Southampton hospital, according to the AP.

The couple were initially arrested by Spanish police after they removed Ashya without medical consent from a hospital in the English city of Southampton and drove him to Malaga, the AP reported. They were later released after charges against them were dropped by British police.

A Spanish court ordered the immediate unconditional release of the parents from a Madrid jail this past Tuesday, according to Reuters. Britain's Crown Prosecution Service said they had withdrawn the European arrest warrant for the couple.

"No further action will be taken against Mr. and Mrs. King and we are now in the process of communicating this decision to the Spanish Authorities so that they can be reunited with their son as soon as possible," the CPS said, Reuters reported.
