New York Fashion Week Honors First Quadruple Amputee Model

Fashion designer Carrie Hammer made her New York Fashion Week debut last season, when her first collection made huge waves after she gave Fashion Week its first ever model in a wheelchair. Now, she's hit another benchmark by featuring the first quadruple amputee model, Cosmopolitan reported on Monday.

After Dr. Danielle Sheypuk hit the runway in her wheelchair, Karen Crespo reached out to Hammer to say she found her decision to use the model inspiring. Crespo herself had lost all four limbs after contracting bacterial meningitis, and her $100,000 limbs had been recently stolen off her porch.

Hammer responded in two moving ways: by giving Crespo a new set of limbs and helping her fulfill her dreams of walking the runway herself. She appeared in Hammer's Fashion Week show on September 5th.

Crespo, who with the help of Hammer now has a pair of custom-made prosthetic arms from Hanger, Inc., strutted confidently down the catwalk in a vibrant crimson dress complemented by flowing curls and a sexy smokey eye, The Bustle reported.

Hammer's brand motto is "Role Models, not Runway Models," according to Yahoo Lifestyle.
