A North Carolina man was arrested last week for not selling drugs.
Cameron Mitchell is accused of trying to pass off crushed Pop-Tarts as crack cocaine to a customer who turned out to be an undercover agent.
The agent struck a deal with 30-year-old Mitchell to purchase crack during a meet at a Halifax County convenience store in June, police told WCTI 12.
Mitchell, who was at the store making deliveries, stepped away to the back of his delivery truck and came back with what he said was crack cocaine. He then sold the "goods" to the agent for $20.
Authorities field tested the drugs. But what was thought to be crack turned out to be bits of Pop-Tart, a popular breakfast pastry that comes with white frosting.
Mitchell and his truck were tracked down to anther convenience store. Upon questioning he told agents he was strapped for cash so he found the corner of a Pop-Tart and sold it to the undercover agent, the station reported.
The wannabe drug-dealer was arrested last Thursday and charged with selling or delivering a counterfeit controlled substance and creating a counterfeit controlled substance.
Mitchell has two prior convictions on drug related charges, WITN reported. It is not clear if real drugs were involved in those cases.
