Facebook announced Monday that it has received 1 billion video views every day since June, and it is celebrating the achievement with the release of a new feature that shows the amount of views for each video.
The feature, called view counts, is designed to help users of the social networking site find new and popular videos more often, according to PC Magazine. Counts will be shown on public posts from people and Pages.
"Video is one of the most engaging and immersive ways to tell your story," Fidji Simo, project management director at Facebook, wrote in a blog post. "Whether capturing breaking news, a baby's first steps, or rising to a friend's challenge of charity, it is a remarkable storytelling medium."
Users can find view counts next to the like and comment counts of the video, TechCrunch reported.
The launch of view counts follows one year after Facebook introduced its auto-play vid feature, The Register reported.
Facebook said views of auto-play clips have increased since it made improvements to its video ranking algorithm in June.
Simo said video views saw a 50-percent jump between May and July, which has led to the company getting an average of over 1 billion video views per day, PC Magazine reported.
"Video on Facebook was built to be mobile first, and now more than 65 [percent] of video views are on mobile," Simo said. "And we're just getting started."
