San Diego overcame a mediocre start to the 2013 season and finished with four straight wins, which was enough to sneak their way into the postseason. Although their record might now show it, San Diego had one of the league's most productive offenses behind veteran quarterback Philip Rivers, who completed a league- and career-best 69.5 percent of his passes and earned the Comeback Player of the Year award.
Rivers credited team chemistry for last season's results, and he expects it to be the same this season with most of the offensive unit returning.
"It's such a unique team because of offensively, how unselfish they are," Rivers told reporters, via ESPN. "The tight end group, the running back group, the receivers group; it's unselfish, and we've never had that (selfish) issue here, but it's awesome because they all want the plays to work."
Now, with the one full year of coach Mike McCoy's system under his belt, Rivers believes the team can be even more productive on offense.
"I just think we know what to expect now," said Rivers. "We all know the terminologies. There's a level of comfort and I think all that does is allow you to play fast and play confident."
Arizona, which is coming off just their second 10-win season in 26 years, also believes the 2014 season will be one of marked improvement.
"We're head and shoulders above where we were last year," said Cardinals veteran quarterback Carson Palmer. "The next step is just to keep improving, it's not to stay where we are and be satisfied that we've come a long ways."
