Australian Man Drinks Perfume To Evade Drunk Driving Arrest

An Australian man tried to avoid a drunk driving arrest by downing perfume to hide the smell of booze, according to local reports.

Queensland authorities came across the 30-year-old daredevil when they pulled him over for speeding down the Pacific Motorway in the city of Brisbane early Saturday morning, the Australian Associated Press reported.

"It's alleged when police were speaking to him, he drank perfume as a breath freshener to attempt to mask the scent of alcohol," a police spokeswoman told AAP.

It is not clear what type of perfume the man imbibed. His blood alcohol level turned out to be .0293, close to six times the local legal limit.

He was arrested and charged with exceeding the speed limit and drunk driving- but not before he was rushed to Queen Elizabeth II Hospital to be treated for guzzling the smelly poison.

The man is scheduled to appear in Holland Park Magistrates Court on Sept. 29, AAP reported.

This is not the first time police intercepted suspects who drank perfume, which can be oil or alcohol-based.

A South Carolina man who was arrested earlier this year told police he drank perfume and hand sanitizer in addition to several alcoholic drinks, the Aiken Standard reported. He was rushed to a local hospital after he told police he felt like he was going to have a seizure.
