Murray has made it clear he doesn't want to star in another "Ghostbusters" film. He did, however, add his two cents on which actresses should play the new ghostbusting team for an all-female sequel.
"Melissa [McCarthy] would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny - God, she's funny!" Murray told the Toronto Star during the Toronto Film Festival this past weekend. "I like this girl Linda Cardellini a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there."
He and McCarthy co-star in the new film "St. Vincent," and he made a memorable appearance with Stone in the 2009 flick "Zombieland." Murray and Wiig both starred on "Saturday Night Live," although he never made a guest appearance during her time on the late-night comedy show.
Stone may have already been offered a role for "Ghostbusters 3" with her "Superbad" co-star, SchmoesKnow.com reported last November. McCarthy has not received an official offer, but would certainly consider taking a part in the film.
"Listen, if the people I think are doing it are doing it, I must never question them," the Emmy-winning actress told the Toronto Star at TIFF.
McCarthy would also like to work with the actresses in consideration, such as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. She's not as confident about becoming a ghostbuster, though.
"Oh, my God, that's daunting. That's taking on a legend, a legendary movie. But I would do anything with those ladies, anything at all," she said.
Wiig's "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig is in talks to helm the third "Ghostbusters." Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two films, would stay on as a producer and thinks Feig would be the "perfect" choice to direct the next installment.
"I know that the studio is negotiating with Paul, and I think it's probably going to work out," Reitman told HuffPost Live. "There were always going to be women involved in the next iteration of 'Ghostbusters.' Paul seems to be the perfect director to sort of bring that about."
