Apple has introduced its much anticipated iPhone 6 at the Flint Center in Cupertino, Calif.
The device has thus far been confirmed to be coming in two versions, iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, according to The Telegraph. Phil Schiller, senior vice president of the company, said the App store will include 1.3 million applications for the device, and that they will work even if they haven't been updated for the larger screens.
The new iPhone comes with a larger, thinner display screen that allows for multi-tasking, as well as a greater battery life than that of the iPhone 5s. It also features a 64-bit chip with 2 billion transistors, which is twice the amount in the 5s, CPU faster by 25 percent and graphic performance that is two times as fast.
Apple is working to include voice-over-LTE and voice-over-Wi-Fi in the iPhone 6 so users will be able to make calls over 4G and Wi-Fi, The Telegraph reported.
The device's 8 Megapixel iSight camera functions similar to an SLR camera in that it comes with "focus pixels" that show if the user's pictures is in focus.
UPDATE 1:50- The iPhone 6 comes with a mobile wallet service called Apple Pay, in which users can pay for products by touching the phone to a terminal in a store. Apple Pay will also work with Passbook.
The price for the device begins at $199 for the iPhone 6 and $299 for the iPhone 6 Plus on a two-year contract. Pre-orders begin on Sept. 12th, and shipping will start on Sept. 19th.
UPDATE 2:00- Touch ID fingerprint sensors are also included in the device, The Guardian reported.
“We believe this product will redefine what people expect from its category,” said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple.
The iOS 8, which is set to launch in the U.S. next month, will also include Apple Pay.
“We’re working hard to bring it to even more countries,” Cook said.
UPDATE 2:20- Apple has also introduced another device that fans have been waiting for, its wearable iWatch device, The Guardian reported. The watch features a flexible Retina Display made of sapphire, which is the hardest known material after diamond.
The iWatch comes with six straps and a “sport band” made from a material that makes it resistant to sweat and chemicals.
The device will be available in three collections: the Apple Watch collection, the Sport collection, which has a stronger case, and Apple Watch Edition, which is designed to be twice as strong as standard gold. Each collection comes in two sizes.
