Jawbone announced Monday that it has released a firmware update for its Up24 fitness tracker that gives the device double the battery life it previously had.
Hari Chakravarthula, Jawbone's executive director of systems engineering, wrote in a blog post that the device will now last up to two weeks on a single charge, according to CNET.
The company said that users should have the most recent version of its Up app before applying to have their fitness tracker updated.
The Up24 had a battery life of one week before receiving the update, ZDNet reported.
In addition to a greater battery life, Jawbone is opening up its API so the Up24 can work and share data with other devices, such as Apple's HealthKit, Windows Phone 8.1 and Pebble.
The data stored on the tracker will be geared toward fitness, such as calculating the amount of daily steps taken and recording specific workouts, CNET. The device will also be able to track the amount of sleep the user gets each night.
Jawbone said that while it is updating its software, it will still develop the hardware in its devices, adding that it plans to introduce several changes to its sensor technology soon.
