US VP Joe Biden Calls 2013 A New Era For US-Brazil Relationship

After meeting with the Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and Vice President Michel Temer on the last day of his three-day visit to the country, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said that the two countries were entering into a new era of relationship.

"The president (Barack Obama) wanted to make a statement of the importance that the relationship with Brazil has for us," said Joe Biden according to the Associated Press.

"That is why the first state visit of the second administration is to your president. We are pleased that your president has accepted the invitation," said Joe Biden.

"It is a sign of the respect we have for Brazil. I hope 2013 marks the beginning of a new era in the relations between our two countries," added the U.S. vice president.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said that the Brazilian president will visit the U.S. on Oct. 23 and added that the U.S. president was looking forward to roll out the red carpet to welcome his Brazilian counterpart.

Speaking on his stay in Brazil, Biden said that he had a "wide-ranging discussion" with the Brazilian president who he said was a "leader who is laser-focused on addressing the needs of the Brazilian people. I now understand why President Obama considers her such a great partner."

Referring to the meeting of the two presidents this fall, Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota said that the two leaders should "focus on areas like science, technology, innovation and education."
