The Oakland Athletics play the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. The game starts at 2:10 p.m. ET. Listen to the live radio broadcast below.
Oakland can tie the four-game series with a win on Thursday. The A's (81-64) have struggled the last two weeks, winning only three of their last 10 games with October quickly approaching. Athletics starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija kept Chicago scoreless through seven innings, but White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia singled in two runs in the eighth inning off relief pitcher Luke Gregerson, giving Chicago a 2-1 win.
The A's bullpen hasn't been able to close out games, including in three of the team's last four games.
"There's way too much pressure on the pitching at this point. We've got to find a way to add on some runs," Athletics manager Bob Melvin told the Associated Press. "We've just got to keep grinding. There's not much else you can do."
Scott Kazmir (14-7, 3.42 ERA) starts on Thursday for Oakland. He gave up 16 runs in his last three starts, but managed to walk away with a no-decision in Saturday's 4-3 win against Houston.
Chris Sale (11-3, 2.09) is scheduled to oppose Kazmir. He's played exceptionally well as of late, going 1-0 with a 1.89 ERA in his last three starts, according to the Associated Press. He's also coming off a no-decision after giving up only one earned run in 2-1 loss to Cleveland on Friday.
The White Sox (65-80), meanwhile, are playing with an eye to the future. The come-from-behind win Wednesday night gave the White Sox a boost in confidence after losing six of their last 10 games.
"It does a lot for us," said White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton. "It really does. We want to show we're not dead. The White Sox are here to stay. We want to do better next year, and we're going to continue to push to be better. It starts with this month."
