Veteran Hollywood actor James Woods has issued a direct challenge to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder on Twitter, demanding him to condemn the violent beating of three white men by a group of black hooligans as a "racist assault" and a "hate crime."
"This is a direct challenge to Eric Holder: Are you, Sir, going to Memphis, TN to address the Kroger racial hate crime? #holderchallenge" Woods tweeted the following to his 159,000 followers on September 9. "Mr. Holder, stand above politics and address the cancer of ALL racism in America. Go to Memphis."
On September 6, a group of 100 or so black teenagers randomly attacked three whites in a Kroger's parking lot in Memphis, TN. The brutal assault was captured on camera, with multiple witnesses reporting that a group of blacks were engaging in "point them out, knock them out" when a 25-year old white shopper became their first target around 9:15 p.m.
According to Bizpac Review, when two other white employees rushed out to help the first victim, they were attacked as well.
However, the police department and district attorney have refused to constitute the beatings as racially motivated or call it a hate crime, Wreg Memphis reported.
Now Woods, well-known as a conservative activist and high-profile opponent of the Obama administration, wants to know if Holder, who has been outspoken in other high profile crimes, will give this case of racial assault the same priority he gave the Michael Brown shooting, additionally daring him to stand for justice for all Americans, and not just America's black community.
After creating history by becoming the United States' first black Attorney General in 2009, Holder's first speech called America a "Nation of Cowards," saying that "when it comes to racism, America is a nation of cowards," Tea Party.org reported.
He went on to say in his first official speech that, "Certain subjects are off-limits and that to explore them risks at best embarrassment, and at worst, the questioning of one's character."
"There is no black in America. There is no white. There is only right or wrong. Racial hatred is wrong. Period," Woods tweeted.
"I've never asked my followers to do anything on my behalf before. Please RT my #holderchallenge to Eric Holder in the previous tweet," he continued. "Let's all stop griping and trend the #holderchallenge and see, once and for all, if this admin will stand up for justice for ALL of us."
He later tweeted the now infamous video of the mob attack and the following: "Where are you, Mr. Holder? Racial hate crime OF ANY KIND is an abomination. #holderchallenge."
Although Holder has not officially responded to the challenge, it remains to be seen whether Holder and the Obama administration will address this issue with the same importance that Ferguson received.
