Walmart Shoplifter Uses Motorized Wheelchair As Getaway Car

A Michigan woman was arrested Monday night after stealing $600 worth of merchandise from a Walmart and attempting to make her getaway in one of the store's motorized wheelchairs.

Shirley Mae Mason, 46, decided to use the motorized wheelchair as her getaway since she didn't have a car to use, The Smoking Gun reported.

The wheelchair was the next best option because she simply "didn't feel like walking," according to the police report.

The stolen motorized wheelchair was worth $1,200.

Her intents were to sell the Walmart clothes for money, she told authorities.

When police caught Mason - in possibly the slowest car chase of all time - she was arrested. Her records show she had a warrant for her arrest before this incident, but she was released on either a cash or surety bond, a court official told Muskegon Chronicle.

Mason is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 23. Police are still investigating the case.
