Lyft looks to compete with Uber and other ride-sharing services with the nationwide release of its "Lyft Plus" service.
The San Francisco-based company first tested the new car service in its home town, using white Ford Explorers that featured leather seats and USB ports, according to PC Magazine. The decision to make Lyft Plus available in other locations is based on the popularity it has obtained across the U.S.
"More than anything else, passengers loved the extra seats with Lyft Plus, and we heard that feedback loud and clear," Lyft wrote in a blog post. "This week, by popular request, we're expanding Lyft Plus as a six-seater option to the whole community nationwide - giving you an even bigger lineup of super-sized rides."
The ability to fit six people presents opportunities for groups of people looking to go to parties and dinners together, Android Headlines reported.
Lyft fans will also be happy to hear that the company is bringing the cost of Lyft Plus down from twice the price of a regular Lyft ride to 1.5 times the price.
The company is also allowing any driver with a six-seater vehicle to participate in Lyft Plus, PC Magazine reported.
"September means back to school, football games, and backyard barbecues to enjoy the last few days of late-summer. Whether you need extra space or just want to roll with all your friends, a bigger ride is now just a tap away," Lyft wrote.
The move follows the debut of Lyft Line, a service that lets a customer pay less for rides by sharing them with other people.
