The "Frozen" phenomenon continues to grow. The movie will soon have its own ride at Walt Disney World, but even "Frozen's" biggest fans aren't pleased where the attraction will be located.
Disney World will tear down the beloved Maelstrom ride at the Norway pavilion, and replace it with the new attraction. Maelstrom will close on Oct. 5 and construction for the "Frozen" ride will begin immediately.
"The new attraction... will take our guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film," the theme park wrote on its blog. "The pavilion will also include a royal greeting location where Anna and Elsa can meet our guests."
The Disney World faithful have expressed their frustration about the ride's placement on the theme park's Facebook page.
"This is the first time I'm upset with Disney. Maelstrom represents Norwegian culture. Frozen takes place in a fictional land. This ride belongs in the Magic Kingdom," Facebook user Rose Kappesser said.
"Frozen" drew its inspiration from Norway and the region. That connection isn't enough reason for some fans.
"Norway is a real country and should be celebrated as such. Frozen may have strong Norwegian influences, but the country of Arendelle is NOT real and has no place in the World Showcase," Facebook user Mary King said.
One Facebook user questioned, sarcastically, if Disney would make similar movie-themed additions to all of its countries in Epcot's World Showcase.
"And when are you going to finally get rid of the American Adventure and put in western themed ride based on Woody from Toy Story, or put in an Aladin ride in Morocco, or a Hunchback one to replace France, or a Mushu coaster in China..." Disney fan John Bradley said.
Disney won't isolate the "Frozen" fun to just Epcot. Queen Elsa will use her icy magic to transform Cinderella's Castle in Magic Kingdom for the holiday season. Elsa, Princess Anna, Kristoff and Olaf will all make appearances in Mickey's Once Upon A Christmastime Parade.
