Miss New York will be remembered from her Anna Kendrick-style performance and the misspelling of author Jane Austen's name on the screen while she was on stage.
Miss New York Kira Kazantsev's pageant platform was domestic violence awareness, focusing on the way the military handles sexual assault. Although her platform was highly respected, gaining her loud cheers from the audience, it seems it will not be what the 23-year-old paegent winner will be most remembered for.
Her performance, where she keeps the beat of a song with a red plastic cup and ABC's misspelling of a name on screen, appear to be getting more attention.
Kazantsev was inspired by Anna Kendrick's song "Cups" from the 2012 movie "Pitch Perfect." For her performance, Kazantsev sat cross-legged on the stage with a plastic red cup singing Pharrell Williams' hit song "Happy." She tapped the red cup on the stage keeping beat, similarly to Kendrick's song.
When Kendrick, who is from Maine, saw she inspired Miss New York's performance she joined the Miss America Twitter hype and tweeted about it.
Kazantsev's performance also sparked a lot of tweeting after ABC spelled Jane Austen, the author of Pride and Prejudice, wrong on screen while she was doing her cups performance.
