Canadian Priest Guilty After Sexually Abusing Dozens Of Children

A Canadian priest was found guilty of sexually abusing dozens of children and one canine - crimes he committed more than 30 years ago.

Allegations against Eric Dejaeger included varying abuses, from sexual touching to rape.

Most of the witnesses in court told the judge that Dejaeger used his position in the church to lure the children into sex, Yahoo reports. He reportedly got away with the crimes for so long because he threatened the children with hellfire or separation from their families if they told.

Although over 20 victims testified in court, the power of the witnesses' recollections of the abuse weakened because so much time has passed between the date the assault happened and the day of the trial.

The reported assaults that Dejaeger is being tried for happened between 1978 and 1982.

If the defense and prosecution does not appeal the decision within 30 days, Dejaeger will return back in court in January to be sentenced, reports Arab News.
