Late actor Heath Ledger was known for diving in to roles to prepare for them, his father told a UK documentary series.
During filming of the series "Too Young to Die," Ledger's father Kim leafs through a journal the late actor left behind, containing sketches and writings of Ledger's character The Joker, according to Contact Music.
Ledger, who passed away in 2008 at the age of 28 from a prescription drug overdose, would lock himself in a hotel room for weeks in order to inhabit his character, his dad said during filming of the documentary.
"He liked to dive into his characters but this time he really took it up a notch," Kim told cameras.
After his death, Ledger would win an Academy Award and Screen Actors Guild Award for his role as The Joker in "Dark Knight," a blockbuster in the Batman movie series.
The Australian heartthrob also won an Academy Award in 2007 for his supporting role in the Bob Dylan biopic "I'm Not There." He was nominated for Best Actor in 2005 for his controversial role in the film "Brokeback Mountain." Ledger's early works included "A Knight's Tale" and "The Patriot."
Ledger is survived by his daughter, Matilda, whose mother is former girlfriend and "Brokeback Mountain" cast mate Michelle Wiliams. Kim, while showing emotion throughout the entire video of the father exploring his late son's journal, gets understandably emotional when reading the words "Bye, Bye" written across a page.
