NFL Player Stabbing: Steeler Michael Adams Knifed Twice in Attempted Carjacking

Pittsburgh Steeler Michael Adams was stabbed in an attempted robbery on Saturday.

The offensive tackle was in Pittsburgh's South Side district a little bit after 3 a.m. when three men approached him. One wielded a knife and another had a pistol.

Police told the Los Angeles Times that the three tried to hold Adams up for his car keys, but he didn't have them on his person.

Things subsequently got out of hand as "the situation escalated," Adams told police. One of the men put the gun in Adam's face-the other stabbed him in the abdomen and left forearm. The trio then fled the scene, the police reported to the Los Angeles Times.

Adams then hobbled to a restaurant nearby, looking for help. Some staff and onlooking citizens called the police, who quickly hospitalized him. He had to receive surgery for the two stab wounds, and is now in stable condition. None of the injuries he sustained were life-threatening.

A message has been posted on the Steeler's website that the second-year player Adams "is expected to make a full recovery."

According to the Associated Press, General Manager Kevin Colbert said that police and investigators are "in direct communication with both Mike and his family."

Adams tweeted about his gratitude for still being alive shortly after he became stable in the hospital.

"I had an angel lookin out for me!" he wrote. "I'll be ok just gotta fight to get back harder then ever."

No word has been given concerning arrests.

Adams was drafted in the 2012 NFL draft during the second round. He was given the title of the team's outstanding rookie, and started six out of the 10 games he played.
