"Better late than never" seems to be the theme for the Philadelphia Eagles, as they delivered their second come-from-behind victory in as many weeks on Monday night. Quarterback Nick Foles connected with Jeremy Maclin for a six-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Later in the quarter, kicker Cody Parkey nailed a 36-yard field goal as time expired for the 30-27 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
The Eagles, despite trailing by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, kept fighting to claw their way back in the game. No player did more on the day than Darren Sproles, who finished with seven receptions for 152 yards and a touchdown run.
"He's just a special player," coach Chip Kelly said to reporters after the game. "The first day we had him it was, 'How many different ways can we find ways to get him the football?' He's just a dynamic football player."
Clutch plays from Sproles, such as his 51-yard gain in the fourth quarter, has impressed fellow running back LeSean McCoy.
"Without Sproles, we would be in some trouble, to be honest, we really would. That's why we're a team," McCoy said. "When guys are struggling, he's picking everybody up. He's helping me out. I need to get my thing together. I don't feel like I'm playing to the level I should be playing at."
Philadelphia became just the fourth team in the last 30 years to win back-to-back games when trailing by at least 14 points in the second half. This comes after their 17-point comeback victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.
Indianapolis (0-2) set its own mark in this game, albeit a less impressive one. The defending AFC champion Colts have now lost two consecutive regular season games for the first time in Andrew Luck's career. Two costly Colts turnovers in the second half - a Luck interception and a Trent Richardson fumble - gave the Eagles the opportunity to storm back into the game.
"The turnovers. Those were the killers in the second half," Indianapolis coach Chuck Pagano said. "You've got to finish games, put people away."
The Colts will try again for their first win against the Jaguars next week, while the Eagles will host division rival Washington Redskins.
