Fantasy matchups may be won on Sundays, but leagues are won during the week. Shrewd owners play the waiver wire game to squeeze valuable production out of guys riding the virtual fantasy bench. Here are four players currently on the waiver wire that could help your fantasy football team:
4. Alfred Blue
Blue hasn't done much yet to distinguish himself, but the season is still young. Blue is the clear cut number two back behind Arian Foster in Houston. Sooner or later, Foster's immense work load is going to catch up with him. The guy did miss 10 games last season, after all. Plus, a team with Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback is going to run, run, run! Blue is worth a roster spot in the likely event Foster gets injured and the Texans offense starts to sputter.
3. Niles Paul
It seems Washington's starting tight end Jordan Reed and Robert Griffin III have something in common: they're both made out of glass. Since Reed went down with a hamstring injury early in week one, Paul has racked up 12 receptions for 185 yards and one touchdown. With Reed's health a constant question mark, Paul's ascension is roster worthy.
2. James Jones
Jones now has a touchdown in each of his first two games. On top of that, he's seen a healthy 17 targets from quarterback Derek Carr, as it seems the rookie signal caller looks for Jones early and often. Also working in Jones' favor is the fact that he plays for the Raiders. Who else are they going to throw it to?
1. EJ Manuel
This is more of a gut call. The Bills look like they could be the under-the-radar good team of 2014. With C.J. Spiller and Sammy Watkins, this Buffalo team has more firepower than a Michael Bay movie. Manuel is working to become a nice dual threat quarterback and has looked good through the first two weeks. Taking a flier on Manuel now could work out well when he really starts to hit his stride mid-season as the Bills compete for the AFC East crown.
